The program has aroused the interest of the entire community in addressing the problems of youth as they seek to realize lives of usefulness. Kappa Leaguers perform projects that expose young men to planning, execution, reporting ideas, and simulating good leadership characteristics designed to raise their aspiration levels. Kappa Leagues primary purpose is to assist young men to achieve worthy goals and to make constructive contributions to their communities when the role of leadership becomes their responsibility.
This two-fold mission of Scholarships and Community Outreach is designed to provide deserving high school and college students with financial support to help them matriculate through higher education. The Kappa Foundation of Petersburg, Inc. supports the annual awarding of seven ($1,000) named scholarships:
Students receiving scholarships are prospective graduates of high schools in the Fraternity’s service area, and an undergraduate member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity enrolled at Virginia State University.
Our second part of the mission involves seeking out community needs through collaborative partnerships with the Petersburg Department of Social Services, Petersburg Public Safety Department, and the community at large. The foundation provides services to the community in the form of food drives, coat drives, youth mentoring programs, etc. As part of the Guide Right Program we have a partnership with Cool Springs Elementary, one of the Petersburg’s elementary schools.
